Hello Everyone

My brother in law’s brother, Eddie, was on holiday in Palma de Mallorca last week, enjoying the Mediterranean sunshine. He thought he definitely needed some wine to accompany the beautiful spring weather, so he popped into the nearest wine shop and was delighted to find some Vondeling. He reported that Palma and Vondeling Chenin are extremely well matched.

Last week also saw the first bottling of the Vondeling 2019 Sauvignon Blanc. After yet another dry year the concentration is extreme and deliciously fruity. Contact our Wine Club Manager, Riki, to place your order for the 2019 Sauvignon Blanc – you also get 20% off your first order when you join our Wine Club.

In July, we will be planting a new block of Malbec. It will be 1.1 Ha. The land has been lying fallow for a year and this week we put the big yellow machine through the block and ripped it twice with a 1.5 meter sub-soiler in order to loosen the soil before planting.

On the last Sunday of April, the award-winning choir from La Rochelle Girls High School in Paarl came to sing in our chapel. They really were enchanting and brilliant, ensuring a very special service. There was also a delightful wedding and the tasting room looked incredible for the reception which was filled with candles.

We were also very chuffed to be in the editors top picks in the in flight magazine for May on Mango Airlines, our largest domestic carrier here in South Africa.

Finally a picture taken in Burgandy, France on 13th April of farmers burning hay in a desperate effort to protect their budding vineyards against a late frost – luckily something we never have to worry about here on the Paardeberg.

Have a great month and pray for rain.

Julian
