Greetings Vondelingers

The first day of spring is approaching and the vineyards are beginning to show signs of life.

The same can be said of our almond orchards which have been really beautiful and in full bloom.

However, we did have a bit of a storm last Friday afternoon, after most of our workers had gone home. One of the Arabian tents attached to the tasting room was blown off its hinges and a few of us had to cut ropes and gather it in. It was a bit like a storm on a big sailing boat and we couldn’t hear each other shout due to the roar of the wind. We managed it eventually.

On the wine side, it has been a busy month. I was in Durban for a tasting in Ballito and the next day visited hotels and restaurants in Durban, Salt Rock, and Umhlanga. This weekend Matt was in Belgium with our importer who had their annual trade fair just outside Brussels. By the way, if you enter any of the Bidvest Airport Lounges, as I did on my way back from Durban, you will find they are offering the Vondeling Petit Blanc Chenin Blanc 2023 currently. Absolutely scrumptious!

Our Bowwood Pinotage 2020 was nominated in the Absa top 20 last week and we are holding our thumbs for the Absa top 10 results which come out in a few day’s time.

Traveling has been amazing, but it makes me realize how lucky I am to live on Vondeling!

Until next time,

Julian.
