Greetings Vondelingers,
The plants and trees are waking up as Spring is only just around the corner. The late winter sundowner walks are truly wonderful though.
People often ask us that this time of year must be nice and quiet, but nothing could be further from the truth. As well as planting almond trees and new vineyards we have been bottling and getting out there and selling and marketing the wines. Below (from left to right) is myself doing a presentation in Lindon, Johannesburg and our winemakers; Matthew in Brussels, Belgium, and Emile in Bedford, Eastern Cape.
It’s also very exciting to be planting Mediterranean varieties on the new farm at Vrymansfontein with our enthusiastic new staff.
Meanwhile back at Vondeling, we have had a team clearing alien trees and vegetation for the last 3 months. The views from the top are breathtaking!
The bird life here, especially around the dams, is fantastic. We have just built a super bird hide beside the big dam near the Vondeling tasting room. All bird watchers are most welcome.
My dogs, George (the German Shepherd), Daphne (the Bulldog) and Cashew (the Street Urchin), love soaking up the winter sunshine after the long cold nights.

Our Bowwood Chenin is a wooded, single-varietal, and experimental wine. It’s pretty unique and we’d love to hear what you think. The Bowwood motto is to produce singular, sight-specific wines. Special attention is given to how the wine will mature over time and we highly recommend additional cellaring to release the wine’s full potential
And also a number of our wines received Double Gold at the Michelangelo Wine & Spirit Awards this weekend! Dead chuffed!
